How was your appointment with Dr. Steriade?

After my lifelong general Neuro of 50 ys suddenly retired I had my eyes on NYU Epilepsy center for a specialist. I called and they scheduled with Dr Steriade quite quick back in 2020, she immediately determined my add-on med isn't working, reviewing my old MRI and told me my scar tissue causing my epilepsy could be surgically removed!! putting me in shock. We tried 2 meds but they either didn't work good enough or had side effects I couldn't deal with anymore. She knows medications I never heard of. Just had PET MRI to re validate no other regions could have developed which they didn't. Next is my first video EEG for a week for more data, then medication #4 after I got forced off Depakote which damaged my liver but worked!!! If 4th med doesn't work we are pursuing surgery - together. She has been a Godsend since I started with her, answering questions, explaining in person, phone and the MyChart portal since this is more than I envisioned after 52ys of epilepsy since age 2!
