How was your appointment with Dr. Owens?

    Dec 08, 2022
Where do I start!? Here is the short version of what what I can write a book on... If I can give unlimited stars with this review, I WOULD!!! Dr. Owens and her team, are saints and miracle workers. I owe my life, yes, I OWE MY LIFE literally to them. The diagnosis of cancer was not easy. A million things went through my mind and I can honestly say I was scared. The symptoms I had, begun 2 months prior meeting Dr. Owens. After those 2 months of progressing symptoms, I knew something serious was going on inside me. Blood work was coming back normal, but symptoms continued to progress which now warranted an X-ray, which warranted a CT, which warranted a biopsy. When I received that news, I instantly called MSK. A day after my biopsy, I got the call. The appointment was made with Dr. Owens and I'm beyond grateful, and I thank God every single day, that the path in my diagnosis led me to Dr. Owens!!! My experience started great upon entering the front door of Sloan, and it only got greater from there! I was called in to the room by Kerry. From there, in walked my nurse Emily. Then walked in my research nurse Jessica, then Dr. Owens. Each one of them brought good vibes. They introduced themselves to me, explained their role, were super patient, caring, personable, empathetic, top notch professionals. Upon receiving any big diagnosis, one would think to get at least 2-3 different opinions from several medical professionals and make a choice. I KNEW RIGHT AWAY, RIGHT AWAY!- that these amazing people were going to save my life. I did not go for any other opinions after that appointment and I knew I was going to battle vs cancer with Dr. Owens and her team. That initial appointment brought me the comfort I needed after the diagnosis. I knew it was going to be a lot of information, some which I might have forgotten, so I asked her if I could record the meeting, she instantly gave me permission. Dr. Owens sat with me for over an hour!! Rest assured knowing she gives every patient the same respect and courtesy. I showed up with a list of questions, she answered most before I even asked and answered each and every one I did ask. I laughed, cried, and had the most amazing medical experience at the lowest point so far in my life. Dr. Owens and her team explained everything to me in depth. They were honest, straight forward, knowledgable, empathetic, personable... every single good adjective any one person can have, they check all the boxes. With a diagnosis of cancer, one simply hopes for a shot. I left that day feeling like I had a shot. I felt so confident, strong, (and in a weird way)pumped, not as scared, and ready for battle. She wasted no time in scheduling me for chemotherapy treatments. Every two weeks, I had appointments. Whether it was a Telehealth call, or in person, whenever I saw Dr. Owens, Jessica, Emily and Kerry or interacted with anyone else in the office, the experience was the same. If I called the office or sent a message through the portal, they were and remain consistent throughout, even as I visit in remission. Even when the news wasn't so great, they remained professional, empathetic, poised, had all the answers and made me feel like I had a shot...they kept my spirits alive. The battle vs cancer to me, (from my experience) is mostly mental. They kept me strong and positive mentally, spiritually, and gave me every shot I was hoping for to beat this thing once and for all. Having cancer, and having to poison your body with the hopes of beating this disease, is tough mentally and physically, but my experience was made so much easier thanks to Dr. Owens and her team. I thank God every day for remission and for Dr. Owens and her team. They are heaven sent professionals doing Gods work healing the sick. My family and I are indebted to them for life. I highly recommend Dr. Owens and her team. I felt so unlucky upon receiving the diagnosis, but I couldn't feel any more lucky today for Dr. Owens, Jessica, Emily, Kerry and the team. May God bless them every day!
